STAFF PICKS: Ski Edition

Feel that nip in the air, skiers? Winter is very much on the way, so we talked to our top shredders at Ascent Outdoors to ask what their favorite skis for the upcoming season are.

Jerry's Picks: Resident Ski Guy

Elan Ripstick Tour 94

For a fun lightweight backcountry touring ski that punches above its weight, it's hard to beat the Elan Ripstick Tour 94. If you like a ski that you can drive hard in all conditions but doesn't cost you a weight penalty on the uphill, this ski is the ticket.  It has the stability and edge hold of the original Ripstick but in a lighter weight package.

Atomic Backland 107

For a mid-winter backcountry driver, I like the Atomic Backland 107. Enough width and rocker for good float in the deep stuff with enough stiffness and a straighter tail for holding strong throughout the entire length of the turn. Plus, it's light enough to not wear you out on those long touring days.

Faction Agent 2

For a fun ski that excels in the ski area and in the backcountry, the Faction Agent 2 is worth a look. A friendly ski with easy turn initiation that can still be driven hard both on piste and off. It is targeted to advanced skiers but it is surprisingly easy to turn and is both stable and predictable at speed. That's a great combination for a crossover ski.

Dynafit Free 97

I really liked skiing the Dynafit Free 97's because although they are stiff and aggressive, their tip rocker allows them to ski in a very surfy way. Turns are really easy, and they handle sub-par conditions very well considering their lightweight nature. They inspire a lot of confidence turning and in a variety of conditions, and are fun even on groomers.

Carson's Pick: Ascent's Ski Tech

Atomic Bent Chetler 120

My favorite ski would have to be the Atomic Bent Chetler 120! In my opinion the camber/rocker profile is perfect for a surfy, and playful powder ski. The unique shape to the tips and tails makes the ski flow through snow effortlessly. If your ski quiver is missing a wide pow ski, this is one you should check out!
